SLOW TRAVEL AFRICA is a small tour operator that creates personal experiences in Southern Africa.
Our focus is nature, people, food and active holidays.
We invite you to explore deeper, experience more and embrace Africa!
Our aim is to make your trip the memory of a lifetime by going beyond the typical tourist attractions and exploring deeper and further.
Meet people to understand their culture and history, taste the food and explore nature in an immersive yet non-invasive way.
Your holiday will also leave a positive impact on the people and places that you visit
through our focus on responsible tourism and giving back.
All of this won't cost you any extra: we charge exactly the same prices as you will find by booking directly online (our profit comes from commissions)
In other words: we do all the work for you and it won't cost you a cent extra!
When I tell people that my business is called Slow Travel Africa, many think that this just relates to the pace of travel. While slowing down and smelling the roses is certainly part of travelling slow, it is so much more than than (and slow does not always mean slowly!). I take my inspiration from the Slow Food movement, which was founded to "prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us".
In the same way travel can be a force for good that helps preserving culture and nature. But it can also be devastating for a destination in terms of resource consumption and erosion of tradition in favour of the modern. In addition us tourists can, through the choices we make, contribute to positive development in the places we visit by making sure that we support the local economy and give back in various ways.
But it's not just about preservation and giving back. It's just as much about having a fulfilling experience. To me, this means enjoying beautiful nature, eating well and getting away from the rat-race of everyday life. It also means learning more about the place that I visit. Meeting people and understanding their way of life. Trying new food. Learning about history, and understanding the present. These are the things that set a slow journey apart from a regular holiday.
This is why I decided to establish Slow Travel Africa. I want to help people have the most amazing holiday, while at the same time contributing the the preservation of culture and nature. To explore further, experience more and embrace Africa!
