About Slow Travel Africa
My name is Katarina, and I am the founder of Slow Travel Africa.
I have lived in South Africa for almost 15 years and during this time I have worked with sustainable development in tourism, itinerary production and guiding. My work, as well as personal travels, have given me a deep understanding of South Africa and its neighbouring countries. Both in terms of what are the best experiences, and in terms of how tourism can have a positive impact on people and places. I think both are equally important.
I personally believe that tourism should be small-scale, and seek to also explore outside the mainstream attractions in order to give a truly great travel experience. In a small group, you will have the opportunity to fully enjoy the experience, whether that is meeting people or immersing yourself in nature. While some attractions are so iconic that you really cannot miss them, there are also a wealth of fantastic experiences to be had that do not make the headlines of guide books.
So with Slow Travel Africa, I am creating holidays that I think are fantastic experiences AND have a positive impact on the people and places that you visit. Naturally, I include some of the top attractions, but I will be honest and tell you which ones I consider to be tourist traps. I will also take you off the beaten path, both physically (going down roads less travelled) and experientially (meeting people, tasting food and understanding the destination better). The holidays I create are for individuals and small groups that want to explore further, experience more and embrace Africa. For every person that travels with me, I donate R100 to Bulungula Incubator. You can read more about this here.
Let's go on a slow journey together!
"Katarina was our guide on a hiking trip in South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. She has, like few other Swedes, a very deep understanding and knowledge of South Africa and its social and cultural aspects. With this background, she strongly contributed to making our trip a memorable and wonderful experience."

"Our best trip ever went to South Africa, where we were lucky enough to be taken care of by our fantastic guide Katarina. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and shares this information in a great way. We want to present Katarina with a gold star for her performance, which made our trip a wonderful experience!"
